About Us
HNA is a community-driven organization dedicated to fostering the growth of Hmong nurses while working to improve the health and well-being of the communities they serve.
In 2012, four Hmong nurses, Mai Lee, Kao Kang Sha Yang, Dr. Padao Yang, and Dr. Kao Kang Kue Vang, met on social media and started discussing the concept of developing a professional nursing platform for Hmong nurses. Under the leadership of Mai Lee, Dr. Padao Yang, Dr. Kao Kang Kue Vang, Autumn Hawj, Pa Vang, and Foua Vang, Hmong Nurses Association (HNA) was incorporated as a nonprofit organization on 1/16/2018, in the state of California.
HNA represents Hmong registered nurses, licensed vocational/practical nurses, nursing students, and retired nurses across the United States. With four chartered chapters spanning three states, we are committed to fostering professional growth, advocating for health equity, and strengthening the Hmong community through education, mentorship, and service.

Our Story
How We Got Started
Hmong Nurses Association began as a concept—a vision to create a platform where Hmong nurses could have a voice and work together to address the health disparities within the Hmong community.
Through this concept, we began engaging with the Hmong community by hosting initiatives like a first aid and health screening booth at the Fresno Hmong New Year. This inaugural event allowed us to raise awareness within the Hmong community and among healthcare professionals about the importance and need for a professional nursing association, laying the foundation for future outreach and advocacy.
Where We Are Now
Today, Hmong Nurses Association has grown into a strong, active organization with a dedicated network of Hmong nursing professionals across the United States. With multiple chartered chapters, HNA continues to advocate for healthcare equity, provide educational resources, and support professional development. The association has expanded its reach through community engagement, hosting events, and offering programs like scholarships, mentorship, and the Nurse Honor Guard. HNA is committed to addressing healthcare disparities, uplifting the Hmong community, and empowering nurses to make a lasting impact in healthcare.
