Hmong Nurses Association provides scholarships to students at all levels.
Providing Scholarship Opportunities to our Members
At the National HNA Conference, scholarships are awarded to students, nurses, and community members at all levels, with additional scholarships offered by HNA chapters.
In 2024, the first National HNA Team introduced the Mai Lee Scholarship, a $1,000 award named in honor of Mai Lee—a visionary Hmong nurse whose leadership played a pivotal role in building the very first professional nursing organization, Hmong Nurses Association.

Scholarship Requirements
HNA Members Only
Must be a member of HNA and a member of a local chapter (if one exists in your area). If a chapter does not exist within a 50- mile radius of your location you may join HNA as a Member at Large.
Enrollment in Nursing Program
Candidate must be currently enrolled in a nursing program (LPN/LVN, ADN, RN-BSN, Generic BSN, Masters, Doctorate) and in good scholastic standing at the time of application.
Register Verification
Letter from the Registrar verifying enrollment and expected graduation date
Remaining School Year
Applicant must have at least one full year of school remaining.
Resume or CV
Resume or CV (5-page maximum)
Official Transcripts
Official Transcript(s) from an accredited college indicating a minimum GPA of 3.0
Personal Statement
Two-page / 500-word maximum Personal Statement / Essay
Letters of Recommendation
Two (2) letters of recommendation
Additional Supporting Items
Additional items to accompany the application in support of the candidate’s eligibility and desirability may include but not limited to documented evidence of:
- Participation in student nurse activities, and
- Involvement in the Hmong American community
- Evidence of being engaged and involved in local chapter and/or the National Hmong Nurses Association activities and programs
These are mimimum criteria, however please refer to each individual scholarship as different scholarship criteria may differ.
